52 Tuesdays halfway through

Closer Productions are halfway through their feature film 52 Tuesdays (they shoot every tuesday a script that's set every tuesday for one year). That's 26 weeks of 52, that's 6 months of the year. Director Sophie Hyde marks the moment by asking fellow Closer filmmaker Matthew Bate to ask her 5 difficult questions. Why? because she felt compelled to put herself out there and because she knew he would ask hard questions. Read Matt's questions and Sophie's answers blurted out late night (on a wednesday). Inner Demon begins production!

Inner Demon, the third low budget feature film from SAFC’s bespoke FilmLab program will commence its four week shoot from 30 January.

Produced by Julie Byrne and Sue Brown and written and directed by Ursula Dabrowsky, the Horror/Supernatural feature will shoot entirely on location in South Australia at Eden Hills, Kuitpo Forest and Meadows (bar 3 studio days).

Inner Demon is the second instalment in Dabrowsky’s Demon Trilogy after Family Demons (2009). A supernatural revenge horror about a young teenage girl Sam Durelle, who is the victim of a brutal kidnapping. She finds refuge in an isolated farm house only to discover it is home to greater horrors and also a malevolent spirit. Trapped in the house, Sam is propelled into a struggle for survival, one that will push her to the limits not only physically and emotionally, but spiritually.

Starring Andreas Sobik (Look Both Ways, Ten Empty), Kerry Reid (Family Demons, Rain Shadow), and newcomer Sarah Jeavons as Sam, all lead cast members are South Australian. In fact, an important point about the film is that it is almost entirely local with all key creatives, cast, crew, equipment, music, and post-production South Australian.

The production is also supporting Mojgan Khadem in training a new Continuity crew member for the benefit of SA with Bev Freeman providing specialised training for her SFX Makeup and Costume teams, bringing further benefit to the state.

FilmLab teams - Where are they now?

It has been almost two and a half years since the inaugural FilmLab Intensive Workshop and since that time much has happened.

The eight teams have been full steam ahead, with the first of the FilmLab projects Shut Up Little Man opening in American cinemas in August 2011 and 52 Tuesdays shooting every Tuesday from August 2011 to August 2012.

Our November 2010 intake of workshop participants have also been hard at work, refining scripts and experimenting with their development processes - writing, shooting key scenes, while one team made an attempt to film their entire film in 3 days!

Stick around and follow the progress of each of the teams and their projects, as well as meet FilmLab advisors and mentors and find lots of useful tips and tricks on low budget filmmaking.
